On Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23, we will partner with TECHO Uruguay to have our Community Impact Experience, which is an opportunity to give back to the local Uruguayan community. We will meet at 7:30am sharp at Plaza Varela to begin each day. We will be dropped off at the same location at 6:00pm.
During the community impact days we will be helping TECHO Uruguay, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building emergency housing for vulnerable people in Latin America. TECHO seeks to overcome the situation of poverty for millions of people living in popular settlements, through the joint action of their inhabitants and the young volunteers who work with the organization in nineteen Latin American countries. During the Community Impact Experience, we will have the opportunity to be part of this mission, helping a Uruguayan family to build their home and have better living conditions. You do not need to know anything about construction, since TECHO staff and volunteers will guide us throughout the entire process. However, physical effort will be involved, as you will be doing activities like painting, nailing or assembling wood and materials.
Lunch will be provided, but you will need to bring your own water bottle. Puentes will bring napkins and disposable cutlery/cups. Please wear comfortable, modest clothes that can get dirty, since we will be doing hands-on work outdoors.
The Community Impact Experience is a highlight for many interns, as it's an incredible way to understand Uruguay's socioeconomic context and make an impact with a local community in need. We hope that you can join us for both Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23. On the RSVP form, you will have the option to indicate which day(s) you would like to attend.
