Before you depart, we would like to take a moment to reflect together with you and your fellow interns on your experience abroad - to share insights, learnings, challenges, and successes.
You will be excused from your internship work to participate in the Community Impact Day as a core part of your experience abroad. Through the Community Impact Day, you will be making a difference in the community around you through a meaningful and touching experience.
You will have a tango class so that you can learn the steps of Argentina’s iconic dance and make your way to the “milongas” of Buenos Aires. Wear your dancing shoes and come ready to “bailar!”
We will go to an “estancia” (ranch) to experience the countryside lifestyle for the day. We’ll devour empanadas and ride horses. We will then have a big “asado” lunch and a tasty “merienda,” as well as free time to enjoy the beautiful venue and other games.
During this seminar, you will gain valuable insights from a panel discussion with Argentina professionals, who will tell us about how they are building their careers in Argentina’s unique social, economic, and political context.
We’ll bring together all of the Puentes interns in Buenos Aires, your internship supervisors, and local alumni from your home universities for an evening of building “Puentes” (bridges).
We’ll learn how to make chocotorta, which is a classic Argentine dessert with chocolate cookies and dulce de leche. And you’ll also be introduced to how to prepare, drink, and share mate, which is an important traditional drink in Argentina.
Join us for a mixer with your fellow Puentes interns, as well as local Buenos Aires students! This is a great opportunity to meet and mingle with both the Session A and B cohorts of Puentes interns, as well as practice your Spanish with local students from Argentine universities.
We will go on a city tour so that you can get to know some of the highlights of your new home city of Buenos Aires, while learning a bit about the local history and culture. Wear good walking shoes, and bring your camera!
We’ll wrap up the orientation seminars by enjoying some tasty empanadas, as you get to mingle with your fellow interns. Come hungry!
We will continue to help orient you to your new home city by reviewing information on your internship experience, Puentes program activities, health, local neighborhoods, cultural considerations, culture shock, diversity, food, and local Spanish.
You will learn about transportation, money, safety, emergencies, housing considerations, and communication. Bring your questions and your Puentes Welcome Pack, which we will give you upon arrival!
