Puentes Intern Alumni Panelists:

Hunter Hales, Proposal Development Officer, Climate Finance Unit, Government of Belize (2019 Puentes Intern, Buenos Aires)

Hunter Hales is a 2019 Puentes alum. She spent the summer working in Buenos Aires with Eco House as an Environmental Policy Intern, which inspired her senior research project: Climate-Induced Migration in the Sahel and Europe’s Securitization of the “Climate Change Refugee.” Outside of work, Hunter enjoyed tango lessons, rooftop birthday celebrations, and spontaneous paragliding trips with other Puentes interns who turned into lifelong friends.

In 2021, Hunter graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies – with a regional concentration in Europe – and French & Francophone Studies. Hunter co-founded the Beyond120 Young Professionals student group, mentored international students and undergrads, and represented UF as a delegate at the 19th edition of the Doha Forum in Qatar.

Hunter now works for the Government of Belize as a Proposal Development Officer in the Climate Finance Unit (CFU), housed within the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment. Hunter has held this position since the CFU’s inception in January 2022 and is responsible for facilitating the development of climate-focused project proposals and concepts. She is currently based in San Ignacio, Belize.
