Timeline for Hosting an Intern
Puentes works closely with companies and organizations to provide a comprehensive and well-managed program for both the internship site and the intern. The following is an overview of what the internship experience entails from start to finish for an internship site.
Screening Meeting
Have a screening meeting with the Puentes team to discuss the internship program, expectations, and possible intern roles within your place of work.
Internship Profile
Complete an Internship Description Form, which outlines potential projects and areas of work for interns at your organization.
Candidate Referrals and Interviews
Review application packets for interested candidates, which are shared with you by Puentes. Interview potential interns and provide the Puentes team with feedback.
Intern Match
When a match is made, complete an Internship Work Agreement with the intern to outline the project work plan.
Intern Preparation
Two weeks before the intern's arrival, update the proposed project work for the intern, and map out the onboarding and training plan so that it is smooth, productive, and interesting for both the intern and the internship site.
Initial Meeting
Have an initial oversight meeting with the intern and Puentes Mentor during the first days of the internship to review together the project work plan.
Training, Supervision, Guidance
Ensure that the intern has meaningful, project-based work that contributes directly to the organization's goals. Provide training and supervision for the intern, including regular, weekly check-in meetings with the intern to review progress on project work, questions, and next steps.
Mid-Internship Meeting
Participate in a mid-internship oversight meeting with the Puentes Mentor and the intern to provide a space to communicate learnings, challenges, successes, and goals.
Closing Meeting
Hold a closing meeting with the intern and Puentes Mentor to reflect on the experience and provide feedback for professional growth and future career advice.
Evaluation
Complete a brief, online evaluation of the intern’s work and your experience with Puentes. Be available to provide possible letters of recommendation for the intern's future professional and academic endeavors if requested.
